Regrets

There’s a good adage that says “a smart person learns from their mistakes, and a wise person learns from the mistakes of others.” It’s good (and an adage) because it’s plenty true – you can avoid a lot of unnecessary pain and strife by learning from all the good examples of bad examples out there.

But, hey, maybe you gotta just touch the flame and see what happens. We tend to file these away as regrets – the ones that plague us as we try to fall asleep.

It doesn’t all have to be wasted time or bad decisions. I was busy learning things through every bad decision I made. Embrace some of those silly, stupid times and see them for just that. Learn from the more devastating ones to avoid that decision again – or even help someone else avoid it. We get to grow and be the people we want to be each day.

As my friend reminded me recently, sometimes you have to take the journey to find out you didn’t need to take it in the first place.

Go get ‘em this week.
